Research on Feedback Strategies

Research on Feedback Strategies  https://nextbigideaclub.com/adam-grant-give-bad-feedback-without-jerk/8968/ I was reading this article about how to give feedback without offending anyone and I have learned one crucial way of how people give feedback. And this is something that I had experienced, I had teachers and lecturers give me feedback on my assignments and projects and this is the exact technique that they use. It is called the "Compliment Sandwich", what it is essentially is that someone gives you praise on the top and bottom and they hit you with some harsh constructive criticism in the middle. I even experienced a few of my secondary school teachers using this while I was in school.  From what I saw,  there are people who deal with feedback in different ways. Some people take the feedback not too well. Most of the time they will end up rejecting the feedback because they think it is not true and end up very angry at the person providing the feedback. But this Sandw

Game Mechanic's Idea Research

Game Mechanic's Idea Research  So for this game that I want to make an Endless Running type of game just like Subway Surfers which the objective of the game is to run as far as possible without getting hit by randomly generated obstacles which the player has to dodge the trains, duck or slide obstacles. But I want to have my own theme instead of the character running across a subway. But that discussion is for another blog. For this blog, I want to write about the types of Game Mechanics I want to have inside of the game I want to create. I have been doing a little bit of research and I found a few that I think will fit very well with my game. This is the game layout of the game. It has a point system, miles covered, pause button etc. These also point out the game mechanics I want in my game.   https://www.forbes.com/sites/danieltack/2013/03/07/kiloos-subway-surfers-making-mobile-waves/ The 3 game mechanics that I think will fit my game very well are :  Time Counter  This mechani

Unity Tutorial 02

Unity Tutorial 02 I found this tutorial very enjoyable, and going into this tutorial I felt a lot more confident about Unity than I did before prior, going into it the first time in  Unity Tutorial 01. This software wasn't as confusing at all anymore and I got a hang of the mechanics.  The only issue I found with this is that I had to be very precise with my coding in the Visual Studios application that's because just like coding itself being in Dreamweaver or in Brackets every little detail in the code you are writing has to be spot on when it comes to actually make the game work smoothly and properly and I did run into a few issues working the horizontal inputs and vertical inputs of the tutorial. But in the end, I eventually made the vehicle move forward and backwards with the Arrow keys and also be able to rotate it without an issue. Challenge 1 Plane Programming  For this tutorial, it wasn't really a tutorial but more of a challenge and this was a pre-made game of a fl

Game Elements

Game Design & Game Elements  So I spent some time reading the academic papers about the qualities of games and game design research and I must say I did learn a few things reading these papers. I also took some time to watch the video below about an introduction to game design and how they go about prototyping a game.  Prototyping The first thing that I did was watch the video below and I did learn some things about how the process of prototyping a game goes, the way how prototyping goes is that people can be quite innovative when it comes to the different types of ways to prototype a game or object. What I saw in the video is that people used markers and coloured paper and they imitated the game experience on how their game will be played out on paper. And the game they were trying to replicate was ping-pong.  They not only prototyped on paper and markers but they also prototyped with table tennis as well, they hit the ball on the walls, slide the ball across the table, played w

Game Brainstorm

Game Brainstorm  3D Catching Game   I picked the 3D Catching game for one of my ideas because I feel like these games are simple to play, the controls and the mechanics are not complicated and anyone can play them. From my knowledge, inside of a catching game, the player needs to use its abilities to move around the map, stay focused and catch certain objects such as balls, fruits, food, animals, etc with precision. And the more objects that you catch the more difficult the game will get and the levels get increasingly harder and more fun. The objects will either fall faster or there will be such things that you are not allowed to catch such as spikes, bombs, unhealthy food etc in general just bad things can't be caught.  The things I would like to learn if I were to make a catching game is :  Learn the fundamentals of making a game. Learn the different mechanics of controlling and moving a player. Learn how to make the player catch objects. Learn how to add a point system tellin

My Thoughts on Feedback Thoughts

Feedback Thoughts  Feedback is something that somebody needs in order to gather information for improvement on a task, assignment, idea or product that someone has. At some point, all of us need feedback in order to take whatever that we are doing or creating and take it to the next level. We need to be able to get our audience's opinion or advice to see if the thing we are doing or creating is actually good or bad and we can get their ideas and see how we can go about improving it. Sometimes when people give out an opinion or try to criticise one of your ideas, it can come off harsh or it can come off positively. There are two different types of main feedback that people can give you,  One of them is constructive criticism which people give you a respectable and truthful opinion providing feedback, followed up with specific examples offered in a friendly manner and with good intentions to improve your idea. Or there is someone that just doesn't agree with the idea and just h

Unity Tutorial 01

Unity Tutorial 01 This was a whole different experience for me, I worked with Unity last year and everything was quite familiar so I got the hang of Unity. Going through the tutorials on the Unity Website made things a lot easier and I followed step by step on how to do the first lesson.  I learned a lot from the first lesson that I took and it was a lot about learning how to make a Driving Simulator. I learned how to make a new Folder, new Assets, adding vehicles and obstacles, and how to make those vehicles move forward and to make the obstacles move by having the vehicle crashing into them. Another thing I learned was how to adjust the camera view of the Player view of the game, I learned how to test the game out and look at the game view and scene view of the project. There weren't many difficulties I encountered in these tutorials because of the way how the tutorials are explained very clearly and I did not have any

Game Design

My Thoughts on the Game Design Process  https://uxplanet.org/play-like-game-developer-97354c9fe31c?gi=9abb50fc3672 What is a Game?  From my observation, I have had a good read of the articles listed below and I have to say there are quite a few things about games that bring a different perspective to me now. I have also taken some notes on some of the things listed. I always used to play games as a child no matter where it was. Either that will be outside in the field or being indoors on a video game console. But I never told myself, What is actually a game?  From my point of view, there are different components inside of a game. For example,  Rules  Players Actions  Resources  A Story  A Goal All of these things I listed above is what is in every single game. But the one key element that I listed off on that list is a Goal. Goal : Everything that we want to do in life, involves some sort of goal to get us closer to what we want. That same thing applies to games and making games. In

Class Assignments : My First Impressions

Class Assignments: My Impressions  From what I read from what the class assignments are going to be like. I saw we are given weekly tasks to do and some core assignments for Multimedia Development 1. I like the idea of where you can do the assignments at any time. You can do all your tasks and assignments in one go or you can split it up day by day and you will have plenty more time to do things for assignments in college. The assignments I am intrigued by are the Unity3D tasks, this is something that is completely out of my comfort zone but I am willing to take on the challenges and the tasks at hand and learn more as I go on through the weeks to come.  Another thing that I love about this is the Blog comments and Twitter tasks, this can give us the opportunity to get to know one another and help each other out on certain topics. I love the interactive aspect of it where we can communicate.  I also love that they added the feature where if you feel like you are missing out on a few

Time Strategies

Time Strategies Time management in its simplest terms means, it is the process of planning and exercising conscious control of time spent on specific tasks,  especially to increase effectiveness, efficiency and productivity.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_management https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/careers/soft-skills/time-management-list-tips/ In my own opinion and doing my research, I have found some articles which I found quite interesting and quite inciteful.  One of the first articles I read was the one I found on the blog page on Trello.  Trello Article :  https://blog.trello.com/the-psychology-of-checklists-why-setting-small-goals-motivates-us-to-accomplish-bigger-things?utm_source=blog&utm_medium=linkedin&utm_campaign=checklists And in this article, they were explaining how you can use checklists, SMART Goals and using small bite-sized tasks to complete bigger projects. This article was quite useful and these methods were actually the ones I used wh

Technology Tools

Technology Tools  Seeing the technology tools that we will be using and the different types of technical skills we will be working on is honestly exciting.  There are a few tools that I am familiar with such as Blogger the tool that I am writing all my blogs in, there are also some that I find that is something out of my comfort zone such as Unity3D. I'm not much of a games developer but if I am able to learn the fundamentals of the software and make a basic but not too complicated game I feel like I would learn a lot from it. The tools that I am excited about using is Canvas, Spark and Cheezburger.   Mainly because this is used for graphics and one of my strong points is graphic design so  I am excited to see what these have to offer.   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Spark

Introduction to a Future Success

Introduction to myself :)  This is me Nasim Slavotic :) Hello! My name is Nasim Slavotic, I am 20 years old and I am now a 2nd-year student in TUDublin Blanchardstown doing Creative Digital Media. I am from Dublin and I work part-time in my dad's butcher shop here in Blanchardstown in Coolmine near the post office.  What are my hobbies?  In my free time, I like to go to the gym. Also, I like to go out and take pictures with my camera and make videos on my Youtube channel (NaSiM101) which I took a break from for a while from the pandemic but I do love to brainstorm new ideas for videos and discover new trending things. I also love going out with my friends but now I am starting to go back out again since the pandemic had closed everything before but now everything is coming back to normal slowly but surely. When I'm bored I like to head on Photoshop and Illustrator and just make whatever comes in my mind.  https://pxhere.com/en/photo/1621191 Favourite Foods  I am a foodie at h

Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset  The Growth Mindset means many different things to me such as growing :  Spiritually  Financially  Emotionally  Physically  Mentally  There are so many aspects within that allows us to grow and thats what I think that is a great thing about being human. Which is being able to grow and evolve into something bigger than what we already are. We are given a choice everyday to be able to better ourselves and thats what I think is a huge blessing. Here are few examples how you can evolve your growth mindset.  Physically  People can evolve physically by changing up their diet to be more healthier to add more fruits and vegetables, more lean meat , more water and being able to go to the gym for at least 3-5 times a week. This way you are not only taking care of yourself physically but you are also taking care of yourself mentally. Because when you workout and finish a workout you trigger a healthy dose of dopamine because you are proud of your progress with your body.  Financia
