Eight things students should do when they make a mistake - Growth Mindset

Eight Things Students should do when they make a Mistake https://www.theguardian.com/education/2016/mar/21/eight-things-to-do-when-you-make-a-mistake This is another article I have found which relates a lot to being a college student. And it's about mistakes, students make them all the time. They may have put down the answer on a test which they thought was the right answer but ended up being wrong. That is called a mistake. All students make mistakes and I can relate to this myself we are all not perfect. This is an article written by an author called Henry Wong. And Henry goes over some really good points when it comes to students making mistakes and how to fix those mistakes. This is definitely a great read especially if you are a student who struggles when they get stuff wrong. A new thing I learned when I was reading this, was that there is more than 1 way to reach your goal. Like there is more than 1 way to correct a mistake which is incredible.  The thing I was curious abo

The Difference Between Praise and Feedback - Growth Mindset

The Difference Between Praise and Feedback https://www.kqed.org/mindshift/34778/the-difference-between-praise-and-feedback This is an article I stumbled upon and is written by an author named Anya Kamentez. This article goes over the differences between praise and feedback. The one thing I knew before reading this article was that praise in itself was something that increases a person's ego such as  "A man congratulating someone else on an accomplishment they had and the man telling the public how much of a great man he is"  That is called praise.  But feedback is something different, feedback is something you receive from someone that is trying to give you some pointers, some advice or constructive feedback in order to make themselves better or to improve. This is called feedback. And this is where the recipient of the feedback is more humble than full of ego. The one big point I learned from reading this article is this geared toward parents because it talks about par

6 Bad Mental Habits that Sabotage your Success - Growth Mindset

6 Bad Mental Habits that Sabotage your Success https://www.inc.com/amy-morin/6-bad-mental-habits-that-sabotage-your-success.html This is an article I came across which is something that I sparked my interest, I read the title and I was instantly intrgued. This is an article written by Amy Morin. And she talks about the 6 Bad habits that sabotage you and your chance at gaining success in this world.  1 thing I knew before reading this was how bad people's mental health are these days especially because of the pandemic and this is something that everyone should have a read of. She basically goes to explain the 6 Bad Mental Habits that are bad for you and she gives full detail and examples of each point. The few things I had learned from reading this article was that, it is possible to achieve your goals and dreams. Every day is a battle and a struggle so you got to be willing to take the hits. Because thats how life is, everyone has a problem of some kind and we are not the only on

How to Turn on the Part of Your Brain That Controls Motivation - Growth Mindset

How to Turn on the Part of Your Brain That Controls Motivation  A man on the floor fixing a big brain this illustrates us trying to wire and fix our brains  This was an interesting article I came across that dives into the scientific background on how the brain works and controls motivation. This article is written by someone named Angus Chen. Something I already knew before reading this article was that I always had this question I had in my head, especially in secondary school,  How do I become motivated?  How do I get to work? How does motivation actually work?  These are questions I asked myself and this article goes into detail about how it goes down. In this article, Angus explains how there are neurons in the middle of our brains called the ventral tegmental area. And to put it simply this is something that controls things like motivation.  The one thing I learned I didn't know before was how my brain really works when it comes to motivation. And these articles that I fo

Unpacking the Problem of Unmotivated Online Students - Growth Mindset

Unpacking the Problem of Unmotivated Online Students  A man sleeping on a chair with his feet on the table, while the woman in the back is working. This is someone who is unmotivated When I was looking for Growth Mindset tasks to do, this particular article caught my interest. It is an article about the problem of unmotivated online college students and how to fix the problem of no motivation. This article is written by a woman named Michelle Pacansky Brock  And I can relate a lot to this article. The 1 thing I knew before reading this article was how the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic affected the mental health of many college students who unfortunately had to do college work online/ at home.  Loads of students didn't like doing college at home because of how it affected their mental health which is a huge factor in them being unmotivated. Once you are unmotivated, you have no drive and fire in you to do anything so you just go and do whatever is easy like watching Netflix, You

Daily Habits - Growth Mindset

Daily Habits This blog that I read called Daily Habits is written by a man named Aaron Davis. And he tells stories about people and their different daily habits. This blog sparked an interest in me because habits are everything, it's what mould us as human beings. The habits that we have in our lives today determine what our lives will be like in the future. The one thing I had already known before reading this article is that everyone needs to have good habits in order to run a successful life.  One new thing I learned from reading this article is the theory of loose parts, which focuses on the importance of changing the environment to foster independent thinking.  If we have good habits such as : Working out  Eating a healthy and balanced diet Working on our side hustles  Not procrastinating at work Getting work done  Have a good morning routine and night routine etc These are the habits that shape us into successful people in the future now if you do the opposite of that, then

Why Rejection hurts so much - Growth Mindset

Why does Rejection hurt so much? https://ideas.ted.com/why-rejection-hurts-so-much-and-what-to-do-about-it/ The one thing before reading the article I picked I had already confirmed one thing which I already knew was the pain of rejection. I had felt rejection myself in my life, for example, there was a job interview I had one time but I didn't end up getting the job because of a lack of a certain skill in a field and that is an example of rejection. There were a few things I had learned from reading this article, instead of being all negative about rejection and looking at it from a pessimistic point of view but we can see it from a positive side for example :  Think of it as a lesson learnt for next time Look at it as the glass half full and not half empty The things we can do to combat rejection are:  Have zero tolerance for self-criticism  Revive your self worth  Boost your feelings of connections One thing I am curious to explore is applying these exercises to real-life situ

Alpha/Beta

Alpha/Beta This is the Final game it self I am now coming to the end of the production of the 2D game I had made on Unity. Everything is operating smoothly and there aren't that many faults inside of the game itself. There were a few issues with the C# Script I was making for the obstacles/enemies. A few times I thought I had the right code in but for some odd reason the game just kept freezing.  But in the end, I figured it out and it was just a tiny misspelt word of code inside of the Enemies script. Overall this looks amazing and it is ready to be published on Itch.io for other people to play my game "Birds on The Fly".  The things I had put into the game are as follows :  A Camera Movement Script  Game Over Script  Looping Background Script  Enemies Script Player Controller Script Score Manager Script (HUD display) Spawn Obstacles Script  The things I enjoyed about making this game, were the challenges themselves. Even though they were hard, it gave me an opportunity

Prototype

Prototype  The prototype of this game is off to a good start,  I had put in my main character which is my bluebird and first I had made a C# Script of the player controller to be able to make it go up and down the map. Whilst the bird was able to do that I had to make a fitting background for the bird. So I imported Assets and Environments which fit the theme of the game in which a bird was the main playable character so I had to import an Environment which had blue skies and green scenery around it.   This is the main playable character I chose This is the character pack I got from Unity These are the environments I chose from Unity This is what the visuals look like so far This was the Player Controller Script After I put in the background I liked, next, I had to make another C# Script which made the background loop every time the bird flew more and more so it wouldn't fly across the map and that would be the end of the map.  .  This is the Spawn obstacles script Next, I wanted

1st Playable

1st Playable I am now at the point now where I have my 1st Playable,  I now have my main character going up and down, the enemies spawn at random places. Now since the 1st Prototype, I had added a few more features into the game which made it more like a game now. I have added a Game Over screen with a Restart button in the middle if you choose to play again.  I also changed the settings up for the enemies so that they are a bit more scattered around the map because last time I made it a little but easy for the player to get past all the enemies because they are all grouped together but now everytime a new enemy spawns in, they spawn somewhere completely random. And the spawn time between each enemy is about 0.6 seconds. I also added a HUD system into the game aswell which is a timer on top of the middle of the screen indicating to the player how have seconds they been surviving for in the game. And this gives a bit of competition in the game therefore without it, it would just be a

Unity Tutorial 07 (Ruby's 2D Adventure)

Unity Tutorial 07 (Ruby's 2D Adventure) This is the 7th tutorial of Ruby's 2D Adventure and this is the final tutorial of the game so I am nearly finished with the entire game.  Throughout the game, the game has been silent, there hasn't been any audio in the game. There weren't any sound effects or music so in this tutorial, this is what I had learned when it comes to the audio.  I used enemy walking sound effects for the enemies, background music and sound effect for the projectile shooting. The way how I was able to put the audio in the game as I made an empty game object and added an Audio Source Component to it. I dragged and dropped an audio file called 2D MUSIC LOOP and which was provided by the Unity website. I had to also make sure I clicked on the loop option. After I was finished with the entire game I exported the game from Unity and I uploaded the game to Itch.io for other people to play my version of Ruby's 2D Adventure. This was a great experience a

Unity Tutorial 06 (Ruby's 2D Adventure)

Unity Tutorial 06 (Ruby's 2D Adventure) This is the sixth tutorial of the tutorial tasks in this course, in this tutorial I learned how to visually style the game, add a user interface and make a HUD (Heads-Up Display). A HUD is basically an image overlay in the game which illustrates the player's health, items, timer, objectives and player avatar etc. Another part of this tutorial is adding interactions within the game so that you can interact with other characters of the game. In this case, I made an interaction with a frog character whose the game objective of what to do in the game which eliminates the enemies. The way how I went about making these is as follows,  This was the process of making the health bar which is a gold stroke, with a blue bar and the Ruby Character avatar on the left The code for the User Interface for the Health bar This was the end product of the HUD display in the game of the health bar  This was the process of making the interaction with the fro
