Game Mechanic's Idea Research

 Game Mechanic's Idea Research

So for this game that I want to make an Endless Running type of game just like Subway Surfers which the objective of the game is to run as far as possible without getting hit by randomly generated obstacles which the player has to dodge the trains, duck or slide obstacles. But I want to have my own theme instead of the character running across a subway. But that discussion is for another blog. For this blog, I want to write about the types of Game Mechanics I want to have inside of the game I want to create. I have been doing a little bit of research and I found a few that I think will fit very well with my game.

This is the game layout of the game. It has a point system, miles covered, pause button etc. These also point out the game mechanics I want in my game.

The 3 game mechanics that I think will fit my game very well are :

  • Time Counter
  • This mechanic will give the player to see how much time has elapsed while playing the game. For example, They can see how much time they have left until the time runs out maybe in like a collecting sort of game. But for this game, I want to make the time elapsing while playing the game will tell the player how much time has passed since leaving the starting point in the endless running game.
  • Distance Travelled
  • This mechanic will be able to tell the player how much distance has been travelled in the session of playing the game. This is used in many endless running games so this mechanic will definitely be one to implement.
  • Score System (Coin Grabbing)
  • This mechanic that I picked will be able to tell the player how many resources/points or coins etc that has been collected. This is normally used in all types of games such as Shooters, Sports, Platformers, RPG''s and Endless Runners like I am doing. This is a big fundamental feature in all games and that's what brings fun and competitiveness to video games.

Here is a link to a resource that I found some information about all sorts of game mechanics.

      1. Hey Nasim,
I think this is a great idea although I feel like it could be a complex and time consuming. Personally I think this is a great idea as I grew up with Subway Surfers! Will you make your own music for your game? This would be an awesome feature as a game like Subway Surfers has iconic background music. I feel like if you run out of time you should abolish the score system as without it the game would still make an awesome user experience. I feel like your strongest point in this blog post is the time counter. When time is included in a game it's always very thrilling. I feel like the distance traveled might be unnecessary as personally I wouldn't acknowledge the distance that much. I like the article you included in this blog post it's very helpful. I wish you luck with your game and this was an awesome blog post.

      2. Hello Nasim, this seems like a good idea and seems as though you have put a lot of thought into it put it may take a lot of time to get to where you want to but I like how much effort you have put in because it shows how interested you are fair play man I wish you the best of luck making this.

I also love going out with my friends but now I am starting to go back out again since the pandemic had closed everything before but now everything is coming back to normal slowly but surely. When I'm bored I like to head on Photoshop and Illustrator and just make whatever comes in my mind.  https://pxhere.com/en/photo/1621191 Favourite Foods  I am a foodie at h

      Alpha

Alpha  This is my progress, I have updated the HUD and I added a few more features in the environment What is going good? So far so good, the game is coming along well. There are a few scripts I put in such as collecting coins, player movement, environment design, generating random levels and level boundaries.  The Technical Difficulties  But there are a few technical difficulties I am going through which is every time I try to put a rigid body component into my player when I added the jump feature into my player controller script, the player for some reason falls through the map and I tried many times trying to fix the issue but I will try my very hardest to fix it. I also need to add in collision detection with the obstacles and when the player does collide with one of the obstacles it will say game over and you have to restart again. Those are some of the difficulties I am facing, I will try and reach my lecturer or one of my peers in class to see if they know the issue behind thi

      My First Playable

First Playable My First Playable game so far At this point right now in the process of making my game, I have now implemented the environment, the 3d character, the HUD interface of the gold coins, the player being able to run forward across the map and move left and right avoiding the obstacles pressing the left and right keys or the A and D keys. I also implemented the trigger where when you run across the coins you are able to collect the coins and the number of coins you collect will appear on the top left of the screen. I adjusted the main camera angle to be a third-person view of the entire game so it gives a good perspective of the coins and the obstacles. I then added plants to give it a better aesthetic and look to the game. The thing I wanted to change from my original vision was that I wanted to make the game way more suited to the theme of the game itself. So instead of wooden spikes, I added logs and instead of tree trunks I added regular trees and then I also added rock
